So I started watching The Following, but here’s the thing:

The “ex-agent who took to drinking and doesn’t play well with others” is - apart from the most cliche of tropes in any detective series -, I feel, horribly lazy writing. No matter how potentially dangerous a situation might be, a loner-type main character will always go into them alone, thus heightening the tension in the easiest way possible.

I’m still watching it, because what does pull me in is the different take on the killer, his motives and his methods. Also the Edgar Allan Poe references.

You know how I’m always going on about how the French are not my cup of tea, that French is the ugliest language in existence, and generally think that the only good thing to come out of France is a love for butter and garlic?

I have just realized - I shall pause for the gasps of surprise - that there is a French guy I find attractive. Manu Feildel has the most atrocious French accent ever when he speaks English, but I guess that when one is a chef, one can get away with such things.

A treasure hoard unearthed on Tyneside over 150 years ago has returned to the region.

The gold and silver items, dating from the Second Century, were unearthed near the former mining village of Backworth in North Tyneside in 1811.

They were acquired by the British Museum in 1850 and have remained there since as part of its Roman Britain displays.

But now the treasure is back near where it was found as it was unpacked to go on show at Segedunum fort in Wallsend. Read more.

The Project:

Space tourism is still a long ways off, but it’s not hard to imagine that someday, tourists will visit the natural geological landmarks of other worlds much like they tour the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest or Ayers Rock. Each of these great tourist destinations needs a classic retro travel poster to entice visitors. Until the day people settle off world and make their own destinations many of these may be the places that people will want to travel too. I hope that these posters can inspire people to think beyond our world to the limitless possibilities of the Universe.
